Your Retirement Has a Metabolism.

Is your income burning out or building up?

I coordinate your guaranteed income, your growth accounts, and your protection—so they work as one connected system, not three separate guesses. I help Erie families and business owners connect the dots between Social Security, Pensions, and Private Wealth.

The $111,000 Gap

Ninety-six percent of people get less than they should from Social Security, resulting in the average American household losing over $111,000 in lifetime benefits.

Why the SSA Office Can't Help You:

Social Security employees are trained to process claims and keep the system solvent. They are legally barred from giving personal advice. My job is to maximize it for you.

Credentials & Story

Matthew J. Welt, RSSA®

The Origin of the Systemic Lens

"I earned my B.S. in Exercise Physiology & Nutrition from North Dakota State University and spent years working as a Metabolic Specialist."

In that world, my job was to look at the complete picture—not just one number on a scale, but how sleep, stress, nutrition, and movement all worked together as one system. A handful of financial advisors I worked with personally were struck by that same approach and encouraged me to bring it into their world. I started with teachers, professors, and administrators—walking them through pensions, COLAs, and how to fit 403(b)s, IRAs, and Social Security together into one clear picture. What mattered most wasn't the gross number; it was what would actually land in their bank account.

Along the way, I began working with business owners—many married to teachers—and saw how often they were overpaying for benefits in ways that weren't tax-efficient. That curiosity led me to become an expert in employee benefits and Section 125 strategy. Around the same time, I saw how many people were getting confusing or incomplete guidance on Social Security, which pushed me to become an RSSA® and specialize in 32 different state pension systems.

I grew up in a small Minnesota town where my parents worked hard and saved carefully for a retirement they could actually enjoy. Watching that plan pay off—for people who started with very little—is why I do this work. Today I live in Erie with my wife Emily and our four kids, and that's exactly the kind of security I want for every family I work with: not stressed, not guessing, just okay—even when the market dips.

The Care Paradox

Why your biggest healthcare risk is also the hardest to insure. Most retirees are stuck in the "Definition of Disability" trap. Learn how to pivot from LTC risk to Asset Certainty.

The Systematic Audit: Mathematics of True Liquidity

"Withdrawing funds during a market downturn is like amputating your principal." This approach is built on published research, including Dr. Wade Pfau's work on tandem income strategies and the Bipartisan Policy Center / BlackRock's 2023 report on optimized retirement income.

Relational Finance Systemic Audit

Repositioning a portion of a portfolio into guaranteed income can allow the remainder to stay in growth-focused investments that have historically had room to recover after downturns—without relying on the whole portfolio to fund withdrawals.

* Research by Dr. Wade Pfau and Michael Finke (2019) modeled a couple combining whole life insurance, an income annuity, and a "volatility buffer" strategy against a traditional investments-only approach. At the median outcome, combined strategies supported between 30% and 62% more retirement income, and 17% to 36% more combined lifetime spending and legacy wealth, depending on the couple's age and which strategies were combined. This is a specific modeled scenario, not a guarantee—actual allocation, results, and suitability vary based on individual circumstances, product terms, and market performance, and should be evaluated individually before making any decision.
